Next week is Thanksgiving and with the upcoming holidays, I am so thankful for my family. We're not the biggest group, but we're still interesting.
To start I'm thankful for my parents. They're the two people who have started my life off on the path I'm on. They've taught me to be kind, respectful, and to leave the world in a better place than I left it. My parents work hard all the time. They help me to pursue my sometimes crazy ideas. They supported me throughout college when I felt hopeless and like nothing would work out. They would answer my panicked calls when I thought the world was ending or that I would never make it through the next week. They proofread hundreds of drafts of papers from every single subject possible. I love them for their constant love and support and I'm thankful they continue to have my back. I'm also thankful for my cousin Sam and Uncle Carl, they're so weird, but family is great. My Uncle may not show how much he loves or cares for me like everyone else, but his over all "Uncle-ness" is something that will continue to fill my life with excitement. My cousin would take my sister and I on adventures all the time when we were little. I'm so thankful for those adventures (although I don't really remember them). She continues to take us exciting adventures when she asks for help on projects like No BS Gift Baskets (Order your gift basket today!) and party planning. They're great and I can;t wait for the adventures to come next week at Thanksgiving. Finally my twin sister, Angela. Where would I be without her? I have no idea. She is my actual rock in life. I don't even have the words to explain how much she means to me. She pushes me to be a better person. She listens to me when I'm in crisis. She's always there for me, except when she's asleep because she sleeps a bunch. She works so hard to achieve her dream for being a teacher. I am so proud of the person she continues to strive to be today. She makes me want to be the best me I can be and for that and so much more I am eternally grateful. So who are you thankful for? Let us know in the comments down below! <3

This week I'm, Angela, taking over the blog.
I would really like to thank my sister, Tammy, for all the support she has shown me as I work as a substitute teacher, whether it is just a day job, or its a long term job. She supports me by making my lunches, listening to me complain about my classes, and helping me grade if she can. She knows when I have a lot of stress and pressure put on me in the job and helps me to relax and get it under control. I don't think I would be able to do this job without her, and I am sure I would not have been able to complete my degree without her help and support. I am so thankful for my parents, both of them have been understanding of my taking substitute jobs, and all the phone calls that come with it. They also listen to me complain about my classes and try to help me solve my problems, and are able to think about how a parent would react if I were to be talking to them about their child in my class. They have supported me so much on my path to become a teacher and they continue to do so, until I get a full time job, and beyond. My whole family wants me to do what I love and to enjoy doing it. We have all learned from my experiences and are then better prepared for the next one. I am so thankful for my family's support and love they show me as I continue to follow my dream. I am also so thankful for all the opportunities I have had privileged to be in so many different classrooms, and learn from how each teacher runs their room, taking ideas from each one. The fact that I am able to be a long term substitute teacher right now is a blessing, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to do so. While I am counting down until I am done with the assignment, I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to do this job and all the help and support I have received, even if it was as simple as telling me to keep on going, or showing me how to do something, or where passes are, the little things add up to make things better. I am so thankful for everyone that has helped me and continues to help me on my path of achieving my dream of being a math teacher. November has officially arrived and most people view this month as both a time to reflect on all the things we're thankful for, and a preparation for Christmas. Now I love Christmas, and I've already spent a good part of this month planning out what I want to do in December, but it's still early folks! I won't bore you with those thoughts as I believe now more than ever we as a community, as a whole body of human beings need to take a month (probably more) and reflect on all the things we are thankful for.
This week I'm going to highlight my friends, and before I get into it I'm probably going to forget someone and I'm sorry if I forgot you. You still mean the world to me even if you don't make this list. <3 To start off I will recognize my "oldest" friend that I met my Freshman year of high school and that regardless of distance we continue to keep in touch, Amber. Amber is one of those friends that we hit things off right away and we were inseparable, but she had to leave back to Pakistan (actually I think it was Saudi Arabia, but she's in Pakistan now). However, even with this long distance and various time zones separating us, we still manage to communicate at least once a month. It just means a lot to me that no matter the circumstances I know that a bond can remain in tact. We have inside jokes, and for some reason we were both obsessed with pickles for a period of time? I love her so much, and today is her birthday, so happy birth to her. Next up, probably my first friend I made in college, Cecelia. Okay, I love Cecelia, and she puts up with my weird attitudes, even when I went through a phase where I wouldn't talk to her because I was upset about something. After we graduated college, we touched bases and now we hang out about once every month. I remember when we really started talking, it was in Freshmen Seminar and we sat in a big circle and they told us to talk to someone we didn't know and I looked at her and said, "You wanna work together" or something like that. She responded, "Don't we already know each other we live on the same floor" Me, "Naw." *Cue the magical friendship forming.* She let me copy her Spanish homework and everything transpired from there. I could go on about Cecelia, but I don't want to make this all about her. She's amazing and I'm so lucky to have her in my life. Bridget and Jenny were the duo I didn't know I needed in my life. We also started hanging out my Freshmen year, but they were Juniors. They were old enough to drink and at that young, naive age, I thought it was so wild to have so much alcohol, until I turn 21 and ended up buying box wine exceeding the regulated limit of alcohol in the dorm room. Bridget and I took Stage Makeup together, and that was a wild adventure. We had fun and now both, Bridget and Jenny are all grown up, getting settling down and being adults. I'm so proud of them. Emily is one of those weird friendships, that now I couldn't picture my Sophomore and Junior year without. She was obsessed with Harry Potter, and acted like such a mom, but she was also a true blue Parks and Recreation fan, and feminist, both traits I love and support today. I've definitely seen a change in her for many reasons since we first became friends, but she's always going to be that weird chick with a Harry Potter shrine in her house. (She's not as weird as I'm making her out to be I promise!) Emily is one the few friends who no matter what continues to support and push me in a way I just really need. She's energetic, and kind, and I wouldn't trade our friendship for anything in the world. I would be regretful if I didn't include one last person to this post and that is Heather. I met Heather my Freshman year of college, so chronologically she'd probably be higher in this list, but I "save the best for last", but also no friend is better than the other, they're all great in their own right, but Heather is special. Heather I would say was one of my first "religious friends" that I continue to stay in contact with, this girl is amazing. We originally bonded at a Disciples on Campus retreat. sitting on inflatable mattresses talking about life late at night. I remember that time so clearly, not the conversation, but just being present there with Heather and my sister. She continues to remind me that "Jesus loves me" and we've had text conversations back and forth on topics from boys to sin and outfits and all the stuff in between. I will stand by her in everything she does. She brings such a love and life to the world that I am so blessed to know. I know I could go on and on about all of these amazing ladies in my life, my girl squad, and I could even add more people to this list, females and males. The point is that these ladies have provided me with so much love and friendship spanning a period of time when so many girls and young ladies are continually pushed down for so many different reasons. Yes, we probably fought, who doesn't? But at the end of the day when all the disagreements are done and you still have several people in your life continuing to support you, I'm so incredibly thankful for that! Let me know who you are thankful to have in your life. Which friends have continued to shape you into the strong and beautiful person you are today? I don't know where I would be without my friends, but I'm sure it's not as much fun as it is right now. |
